MUSCAT: The Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Water Resources has announced a ban on fishing, possessing and trading kingfish across all coastal areas of the Sultanate of Oman.
The ban will take effect on Saturday, August 15, 2026, and remain in force until Thursday, October 15, 2026.
The decision is based on Article 178 of the Executive Regulations of the Living Aquatic Wealth Law, issued under Ministerial Decision No. 70/2026.
The ministry called on fishermen, fish transporters, companies and establishments involved in catching, transporting, purchasing, selling, trading or exporting kingfish to comply with the regulation.
Throughout the ban, catching, possessing, transporting, purchasing, selling, storing, freezing, trading or exporting kingfish will be prohibited.
Individuals and companies that already possess quantities of kingfish must register their stocks with the competent authority in accordance with the procedures stipulated in the Executive Regulations.
The ministry urged all concerned parties to cooperate and comply with the ban to protect fish stocks, ensure the sustainability of kingfish fisheries and avoid legal action against violators.
